Jennie is now retired and lives in the Wynnum/Manly area. I trained in England as a secondary school teacher, taught and was also a youth worker in London before moving to Australia for a long holiday in my late 20s. Loved the country and met my husband, so stayed and continued working as a youth worker in youth housing services in Western Sydney before moving to Brisbane to raise our family. I continued to work part time throughout this time in state government departments in Brisbane focusing on youth issues, crime prevention strategies and homelessness in general. As most of these important services are delivered by non-government organisations (NGO), I spent a lot of time working on policy and programs alongside the NGO sector.   I have a strong sense of community. I believe in meaningful engagement and value the work of NGOs, volunteers and the benefits of corporate and community support to help people who at times in their lives do not have the personal, financial, family and social support they need to live adequately, safely and fulfil their potential. On a personal note, I also love dogs and have started agility trialling in Redlands with my dog. We enjoy walking and exploring the area and spending time with our grown children and grandchildren.
