HOW CAN YOU HELP?
The ‘Heartbeat of Wynnum’ campaign is a community-driven initiative to secure certainty of essential funding and a premise for Wynnum Community Place (WCP), ensuring that the Place can not only continue vital services but reopen across five (5) days a week. The need in the community for our service is increasing. WCP is facing significant challenges, and without community support, WCP risks closure by 30 September 2024.
How You Can Help:
- Lobby Government: Advocate for us by sending a campaign letter to government leaders. Prewritten letters are available below, and we can also provide hardcopy letters if needed.
- Display an A3 Poster: Show your support by placing an A3 poster in your business window to raise awareness.
- Share on Social Media: Help spread the word by sharing our campaign posts on your social media platforms.
- Spread the Word: Talk about the ‘Heartbeat of Wynnum’ campaign with your friends, family, and community members.

WYNNUM COMMUNITY PLACE ACHIEVEMENTS
Emergency Relief
Since June 2021, Wynnum Community Place (WCP) conducted over 4,320 emergency relief sessions, offering vital food (fresh, meat, staples), medications, fuel and financial support to those in need. These efforts ensured that families and individuals in the community in the most vulnerable of circumstances received the assistance necessary to navigate difficult times.
Community Meals and Fresh Produce Distribution
WCP served an impressive 15,480 FREE nutritious community meals to the residents of Wynnum/Manly (weekly). In addition, the organization distributed 25,080 kilograms of fresh fruits and vegetables, significantly enhancing the food security of the local people. These initiatives also provided 3,600 friendly coffee sessions, fostering community bonds and providing a comforting environment for social interaction and connection.
Funding and Outcomes
WCP’s was the successful ‘pilot’ neighbourhood centre for funding, which translated into long-term, impactful community programs and services:
- A total of $1,256,955.82 was provided back to the community, reflecting the organization’s commitment to making a positive difference.
- Between June 2021 and March 2022, WCP received $93,380 in funding, which was utilized efficiently to achieve these remarkable outcomes. Since March 2022 WCP has relied on community donations with zero government funding,
Support for the Homeless
WCP also delivered critical services to those in most need across the homeless and risk of becoming homeless community:
- Distributed 3,340 frozen meals, ensuring that vulnerable community members had access to ready-to-eat nutritious food.
- Facilitated 432 shower sessions, offering hygiene and dignity to the homeless.
- Offered 720 laundry services, enabling clean clothing and bedding for individuals and families.
- Provided a ‘Place’ to feel safe, sleep, connect with services and importantly recharge.
Community Events and Engagement
From 2021 to June 2024, WCP provided extensive support to the homeless population, including:
- Helping over 1,152 residents with meditation practices to improve mental health and well-being.
- Conducting over 576 counseling sessions to address various personal and psychological challenges.
- Assisting 432 individuals through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) programs.
- Distributing gifts to over 240 children during Christmas, bringing joy to young ones during the holiday season.
- Hosting a Christmas lunch for over 230 residents, ensuring everyone could celebrate together.
- Supplying 230 children with essential back-to-school supplies, aiding their educational journey.
- Supporting over 144 new parents with baby essentials, easing the transition into parenthood.
- Providing 80 children with Easter Egg bags, adding festivity to their celebrations.
- Celebrated International Women’s Day with over 80 attendees, highlighting and honoring the contributions of women in the community.
- Held a Thank You afternoon tea with 25 participants, expressing gratitude to volunteers and supporters.
- Launched the Vaxseen project, with 12 people attending, promoting health and wellness within the community.
- Provided over 1,500 residents with free clothing through Wynnum Community Place Pop-Up Shops, ensuring that everyone had access to essential attire.
